Marvin H. Burroughs
Marvin Huff “Dick” Burroughs, 95, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his home in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 8, at Christ Fellowship Church, in Southern Pines, with the Rev. James Thyne officiating.
Mr. Burroughs was born March 13, 1918, in Grant County, Ky., to the late John W. and Mamie Huff Burroughs. He was a member of Christ Fellowship Church in Southern Pines.
In addition to his joyful participation in church activities, Mr. Burroughs was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Grand Lodge of F. & A. M. of Ohio. Throughout his nearly 70-year membership in the fraternity of Masons he passionately supported the operations of the Shriners Hospitals for Children through numerous volunteer activities.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Wilma Scroggin Burroughs.
Mr. Burroughs is survived by his daughter, Carnetta Bell, of Foxfire Village; his grandchildren, Denise Graner and her husband, Wesley, and Brian Bell and his wife, Jennifer; and five great-grandchildren, Holden Graner, Cayden Graner, Landen Graner, Benjamin Bell and Lillian Bell.
